After three nights on the boat and three days sweating in the hammock, we have finally arrived to Santarem.
The city does not look that fancy. We go straight to the bank, then fill ou fuel tanks. Many Brazilians told us to go to Alter do Chao. A small town located 30 km further west. It was described to us as a paradise of turquoise waters and white sand. All we care about for now is having a quiet and peaceful night of sleep. And if Alter do Chao is really how as we were told, maybe we’ll spend a few days there before starting the real Transamazonica.
And people were not wrong. When you arrive at Alto do Chao the view is beautiful. The beach actually looks like paradise, and there is absolutely nobody. We just have to find a nice play to spend the night. We head to a hotel at… 9am. The manager offers us breakfast. The Dutch we met on the boat also come to the same hotel. They sleep in the room next door (“paozada” in brazilan). Everything is perfect.
It’s right at that moment thaht appears a charming Swiss girl (more Spanish than Swiss actually). The discussion begins. She is waiting for two German friends to go to the beach. Without any hesitation, we jump in our swimming shorts. The beach is really nice. It’s paradise here.
Verdict : we have spent 4 days in Alto do Chao and met 15 different people, and we’re still in the same place. The city is even more lively on weekends. The girls are beautiful and great … but I’ll stop here.
Our batteries are charged to 200%.
